Reg says:
‘Looking through some old photos I came across some pictures of Sid Wise, one of my old instructors, and thought it might be nice to recognise him on my website, so this is a page dedicated to Sid and my memories of him …

Karate Students in Ilkeston near Nottingham in the early 1970s

… The first time I saw Sid if I remember correctly was about 1972, it was at one of the Sankukai Clubs at Clifton near Nottingham when I was looking round the local karate clubs. The second time was at Bushiki at Ilkeston when I looked at another Sankukai Club. He was the sole instructor at the Clifton club, and joint instructor at the Ilkeston club. … And I must say that I am very pleased to have met and trained with him. … Some of the pictures on this page were kindly donated by Sid himself – many thanks Sid.’

… Horror struck when John attacked Sid with a real knife with a six inch blade! As Sid threw John, he dropped the knife, then seemed to land on it. There was a deathly hush …

… Then we saw that John had not in fact fallen directly upon the blade, and he got up, shook himself down and continued with the demonstration! Fortunately he had sustained no injury and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.’
